The internet today is a means for communication and information transmission between parties. It is a worldwide network of accessible information for all computers able to access this network of networks known as the internet.
In seeking a way to combine and distribute information in a more efficient way research was done which led to the ARPANET which used Leonard Kleinrock’s research on packet switching to jump start us toward the internet we now know today. TCP/IP becomes the standard protocol for communication among the networks TCP overseeing the network and scanning for lost packets and IP tracking sent packets. These two new protocols developed in 1972 by Robert Kahn and Vinton Cerf revolutionized the possibilities of the internet and the ability to share information. This standard ensured the compatibility between networks and is still used today. This is a few of the key elements to note in the creation of the internet leading to where we are today. Using the internet in fact to gather information to write this blog.
The internet can be used for many needs such as social, business, government, finance, etc; the possibilities of use are endless really. I know myself I am mostly on here for research for school and work related projects. So I value the information and resource abilities the internet provides. Also as an automotive hobbyist I use the internet to gain knowledge about my upcoming projects. Many other people use it for such things as social networking, newsgroups, and business transactions. I can not even begin to stress the importance the internet holds in today’s workplace. There are so many vital aspects for a business when it comes to the internet from having a website, online checkout, tech support, e-mail and many others that it truly have changed the marketplace forever. With how fast this has come to fruition I expect another 50 years out we will hardly recognize what we know today as the internet.
